Where is the best place for breakfast or brunch in Newport? It’s Chalet Restaurant & Bakery, located just 5 minutes (or 3.2 miles) south of the Pacific Surf Motorcoach Estate! The address is 2026 N Coast Hwy, Newport, OR 97365 and they are open daily from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. There’s plenty of free parking available, as they share the same parking lot as Safeway. Inside, there is abundant seating at a table or a booth.

Pancakes & Belgium Waffles
Even though the Chalet Restaurant & Bakery has an extensive menu, I can’t seem to get away from ordering their Hazelnut Blueberry Pancakes! The last three visits to this restaurant had the same delicious Hazelnut Blueberry Pancakes delivered to our table. Bob on the other hand, ordered a Golden Brown Waffle one day, the Country Steak with 3 Buttermilk Pancakes another day and the Oregon Hazelnut Waffle the third day. Everything we ordered during these last three visits was excellent!
Hazelnut Blueberry Pancakes
This is what the Hazelnut Blueberry Pancakes look like, exactly as described on their menu. “Blueberries placed into hazelnut batter, topped with chopped hazelnuts and served with a side of our blueberry compote and hazelnut syrup.” Our server was kind enough to also include hot maple syrup on the side (middle container) because the blueberry compote and hazelnut syrup were both served cold. The plump, ripe blueberries are placed right into the batter! However, if you want more of this delicious filling, you can top the pancakes with the blueberry compote. I did want extra blueberries, so I just used my fork to place the blueberries over the top of the pancakes and left the sauce in the container. If there were pancakes that I could order every weekend, these would definitely be it!
Oregon Hazelnut Waffle
This is what the Oregon Hazelnut Waffle looks like, pretty much as described on the menu. “Filled with chopped Oregon hazelnuts” but the Belgian Waffle is actually topped with chopped Oregon hazelnuts, not filled in the batter as you may think.
Huevos Rancheros
Here is their Huevos Rancheros, two over easy eggs on a corn tortilla, topped with spicy ranchero sauce and cheddar cheese. My husband Bob had his served with 3 buttermilk pancakes.

The Chalet Restaurant & Bakery offers breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. You can order breakfast all day, except for the Eggs Benedict, which is served until 2:00 pm. They also have specials, which are written on the board where you wait to be seated. Their current specials include Pumpkin Spice Pancakes, among others.
